According to the KPCC public radio station report, the mayors from these southeast cities would like the power to appoint the superintendent and the principal to each school. More significantly, the mayors would like the power and authority over hundreds of millions of dollars that the new school district would have at its disposal. Currently it is against state law for city councils to run any school districts. There are many reasons for that law.
