| KNX News Radio reports: "Vernon Corruption Probe Leads to Sex Charges Against Mayor's Son" "The son of the mayor of Vernon pleaded not guilty to child sexual abuse, the latest in a string of charges stemming from a corruption probe in the small industrial city. John Joseph Malburg, 37, the son of Mayor Leonis Malburg, was charged with multiple counts of child sexual abuse, possession of child pornography and using a minor for sex acts while dean of students at an area Catholic high school." Earlier this week, prosecutors filed voter-fraud charges against the mayor, his wife and his son while a former city administrator was accused of bilking $60,000 in public money to pay for massages, golf outings, dinners and other personal uses. Critics have long depicted Vernon as a city beyond the law, where a cadre of officials used election shenanigans, secrecy and thuggery to maintain control while reaping the spoils of power." |

| City of Bell's George Cole in Secret Talks to Annex Vernon? Vernon Mayor Indicted by D.A. Public Corruption Charges for Voter Fraud Huntington Park, CA - Another of Mayor Villaraigosa's Council of Mayors has been indicted on public corruption charges. AB 1381, the LAUSD take-over Assembly Bill passed recently, gives specific powers to the Southeast Council of Mayors in the cities of Bell, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Maywood, South Gate and Vernon, thanks to efforts by Mayor Villaraigosa, Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez and Senator Martha Escutia. According to a report by Hector Becerra in the L.A. Times, Vernon's long-time mayor and the city's ex-city manager were indicted on Wednesday by the D.A.'s office. Vernon could loose its city charter and the State would have to intervene. Angling to annex Vernon is George Cole, the de facto bully of the southeast cities. Cole's friends in the State Legislature can make it happen, just like they did for Cole with AB 1381. Huntington Park's ex-mayor Edward Escareno was convicted 1 year ago for Grand Theft, a felony. Escareno was the campaign manager for current Mayor John Noguez. Both Noguez and Escareno are proteges of Rosario Marin. Marin was an ex-councilmember in Huntington Park, former U.S. Treasurer, now head of California's Consumer Affairs Department, a political appointment. |
