Huntington Park, CA - Measure "L" has reportedly garnered a majority of votes during
yesterday's general elections. According to L.A. County's Registrar Recorder/County Clerk
Election Results (click here for link), the YES votes totaled 4,822 (68.85%); the NO votes
were 2,182 (31.15%).

According to State law, the measure needed a 2/3 majority vote or 66%. Measure "L" will
raise property taxes by an additional $750,000. Yard signs and campaign mailers flatly
stated that the measure will "Lower Taxes".

Properties with one single family home will see a $10 reduction in taxes. Apartment owners
will see a considerable increase in property taxes, the cost of which most likely will be
passed on to the city's low income renters.

The apartment association, whose representative was appointed as a city planning
commissioner, evidently did not oppose the measure.

Coincidentally, the cities of Huntington Park and City of  Commerce share the same city
attorney: Francisco Leal. Lynwood's city attorney, Arnoldo Beltran, was a former law
partner of Francisco Leal.
