By Stating He's a Businessman?

Huntington Park- In 2001, Escareño stated on his campaign statement that he is a
“Businessman/Police Volunteer Coordinator”. Yet, when he reports his Statement of
Economic Interests on California Form 700, he reports no business interests since 2000.

In a similar case, Rosario Marin, ex-US Treasurer and ex-Mayor of Huntington Park,
recently lost a court case in Sacramento Superior Court precisely for her use of the term
"Businesswoman". Allegedly, Rosario Marin's use of "Businesswoman" as part of her
ballot designation was found to be "misleading," and term ordered deleted from the ballot.
She could use "US Treasurer" (Sacramento Bee, 12-24-2003). Reportedly, she filed an
appeal.
